Predator! Okto Scrum Machine
Full-Pack Machine
Air Powered Training & Precise Force Measurements
The power of eight forwards working in combination is a small fraction of the total power of the eight working separately.

This leaves scope for tremendous improvement in pack performance.

The use of simple collective techniques, practiced against this force-measuring machine guarantees a substantial increase in the power of your pack.

Measurement is so important - not only does the machine quantify the shove of the whole scrum, it can identify a shortfall in an individual performance.

The contribution of individuals is now judged objectively, eliminating guesswork from pack selection.
Okto Machine
Some interesting facts:
  1. A pack of rugby forwards can resist an opposition scrum drive some 25% stronger than their own drive
  2. For their first ever professional tour, the 1997 British Lions chose to ship their own machine to South Africa. Jim Telfer's successful utilisation of the machine, with its patented pneumatic system, is well documented. Courtesy of Nigel Horton, the Lions were armed with the knowledge that South Africa Test packs routinely produce scrum drives in excess of 1300 kilos - consequently, the Lions pack practiced hard in training to resist this level of force. Interestingly, the Lions Test pack at their best, produce a scrum drive of only 1080 kilos
  3. Birmingham / Solihull have been using the Predator! system since the beginning of the 1997/98 season. Initially, their pack's best scrum generated only 700 kilos and they could resist a force of only 900 kilos. At the time of writing, these figures had risen dramatically to over 1000 kilos and 1200 kilos respectively.
  4. The Scottish RFU 'Strongest First Row Competition' sponsored by Campbells Distillery, produced three forwards with a combined force of 1275kg
  5. A Natal U-21 prop forward has recorded a scrum drive of 495 kilos - by himself!
Accommodates one or more players up to a full pack of eight forwards.

Allows meaningful scrummage training regardless of weather.

Realistic simulation of "own head" and "opposition put-in".

Weakness and strengths in the scrummage which manifest themselves in matches, can be precisely identified in training.

Timing, cohesion, binding, head, foot and body positions can be analysed and corrected as necessary.

Collective techniques can be properly practiced and group efficiency measured, monitored and maximised.
